چکیده

The classical M / G / l system with vacations has been used to estimate the mean waiting t ime of individual priority classes of homogeneous FDDI networks. To faithfully model the FDDI network using M / G / l system, the vacation interval of the server (token) as seen by individual priority classes must be evaluated. The expressions for the mean waiting time of individual priority classes are functions of first and second moments of the vacation intervals of tha t class. I t can be shown tha t the expression derived for the first and second moments of the vacation intervals of the respective classes are functions of mean and variance of number of messages transmitted by each priority class per token rotation. These expressions are evaluated using a n iterative procedure tha t utilizes the prior knowledge of the throughput characteristics of the FDDI network. Simulation results show tha t the model provides accurate estimates for the mean waiting time of individual priority classes of a homogeneous FDDI network.

Throughput Evaluation of an Asymmetrical FDDI Token Ring Network With Multiple Classes of Traffic

The Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) standard supports synchronous and asynchronous data transmissions. It allows each station to have multiple classes of asynchronous data, and meets the requirements of different classes by means of a timer-based priority scheme. The performance of a non-homogeneous FDDI network carrying multiple classes of traffic is considered. An analytical model is ...

A Non-Preemptive Priority Queueing System with a Single Server Serving Two Queues M/G/1 and M/D/1 with Optional Server Vacations Based on Exhaustive Service of the Priority Units

We study a vacation queueing system with a single server simultaneously dealing with an M/G/1 and an M/D/1 queue. Two classes of units, priority and non-priority, arrive at the system in two independent Poisson streams. Under a non-preemptive priority rule, the server provides a general service to the priority units and a deterministic service to the non-priority units. We further assume that t...

An Invariance in the Priority Queue with Generalized Server Vacations and Structured Batch Arrivals

Shanthikumar [10] studied the priority M/G/1 queue with server vacations and found that the difference between the waiting time distribution under the non-preemptive priority and that under the preemptive-resume priority is independent of the vacation policy. We extend this interesting property i) to the generalized vacations which includes the two vacation policies considered by Shanthikumar, ...

MODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF A DISCRETE-TIME PRIORITY QUEUING COMPUTER NETWORK WITH PRIORITY JUMPS USING PROBABILITY GENERATING FUNCTIONS

Priority queues have a great importance in the study of computer communication networks in which different types of traffic require different quality of service standards. The discrete-time non-preemptive priority queuing model with priority jumps is proposed in this paper. On the basis of probability generating functions mean system contents and mean queuing delay characteristics are obtained....
